The Denim Guide

Once esoteric – with a sacred status among so-called “denim heads” – and a mainstream wardrobe staple, the humble denim jean remains one of the most deceptively complex and mysterious garments of all time; one that creates an emotional connection with the wearer. Here is a guide to get your entire denim look sorted this year:

  1. Legacy of jeans

Wash, The distressed, The ripped: this year set your looks on the blaze with the wash, distressed or ripped jeans. Lay your hands on unconventional hues like white, ivory or sand-color.

  1. Jacket-in the denim:

Double Denim

The one trend which you can splurge on is double denim. Doing the double involves mixing up the two indigo hues; creating a solid base layer with a raw, selvage jean or deep, dark blue, with minimal distressing for a chicer look.

Denim x 3

If you’ve mastered double denim, triple denim is the next challenge. Though tricky to pull off. Opt for minimal, classic accessories like a few gold bracelets and a swipe of red lipstick while going for 3 pieces of denim on your body.

Layer Player

It’s very modern, street casual approach to denim. Making the denim shirt the foundation is one method, layering another cotton – such as a tee – underneath a button-down chambray, topped-off with a dark denim mandarin coat or regular denim jacket. Other times, the shirt – worn open – works wonderfully as a quasi-top coat in the transeasonal months. Layer it over a jersey sweater or a plain tee. And try the denim shirt in a slightly larger fit to ensure that jacket look is pulled off.

  1. The Skirt-ishAffair:

Retro style:

A denim skirt is a perfect piece to go along with the current ’70s trend. Perfect for seasonal transitions; this outfit can also be paired with a denim skirt with a chunky sweater. To keep the finished look ultra-flattering, try half tuck

Skirt it up to office

A denim pencil skirt—without rips or distressing—is totally appropriate for a casual or creative workplace. It’s also easy to wear on- or off-duty. A skinny belt is a great finishing touch; it accentuates the narrowest part of your waist

Grunge

Try a new take on the grunge look with a deconstructed, ripped denim skirt like a Portable Package. This outfit is super-easy to recreate—just tuck it in a plaid shirt, and add a leather jacket.

  1. The Fad of Denim Boot

Now, this is one risk faux-pa risking trend but if carried with minimal accessories and bare clothing looks exotic.
