Tokyo Olympics 2021 India, Day 15 Live Updates: Indian golfer Aditi Ashok raised Indians hopes on Saturday for a historic golf medal but lost out on bronze by one shot to Lydia Ko. So far, India have won two silver and three bronze medals — Mirabai Chanu and Ravi Dahiya (Silver) and PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain and the Indian men’s hockey team (Bronze) — in Tokyo, one less than their record haul of 6  from London 2012. For this edition, India are currently placed 66th on the medals tally. Saturday is the  last event with Indian participation.  The closing ceremony will be held  on Sunday, where Bajrang is set to  be India’s flag-bearer. All eyes will be on Neeraj Chopra  to deliver India’s elusive Olympic  medal in athletics and end a wait of  100 years when he competes in the  men’s javelin throw final. A  pre-tournament medal contender,  the 23-year-old Chopra fuelled the  country’s expectations by topping  the qualification round with a  stunning first-round throw of  86.65m. Meanwhile, Bajrang Punia  will fight for bronze medal in the  men’s freestyle 65 kg category after  losing to three-time world champion  Haji Aliyev in the semi-final.

Bajrang’s last bow in Tokyo  2020

True to his style, Bajrang Punia put  his tactical acumen and strength to  good use in the second period to  pin Iran’s Morteza Cheka Ghiasi for  a semifinal berth in the men’s  free-style 65 kg event which took  him closer to an Olympic medal on  debut. He lost to the dreaded  Aliyev in his semifinal following this  though.

India’s most celebrated wrestler (at  least in the men’s section) still has  a chance to win a medal on his  Olympic debut. He will probably be  up against Niyazbekov of  Kazakhstan. Diatta (SEN) could be  the other possible opponent. That  match is going on at the moment.

Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal

Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics gave India its perfect start and netizens are coming up with creative ways to congratulate the Olympics medalist winners. The 26-year-old on Saturday bagged the silver for the country after she lifted 202 kg (87 kg+115kg) in the 49 kg category to better Karnam Malleswari’s bronze in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The Indian men’s team will meet Germany in the bronze medal match while Australia and Belgium, the world’s top two ranked teams, will clash for the hockey gold medal at Tokyo Olympics 2021 on Thursday (August 5). Australia defeated Germany 3-1 in the second semi-final at the Oi Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. India had lost to world champions Belgium 2-5 in the first semi-final earlier in the day.
