ALIF: A straight line …. A straight connection, with the Almighty on one end and you on another end. This is the theme of the Ramadan art exhibition organized by Funun Arts Group along with Novotel World Trade Center. The exhibition was inaugurated in the beginning of Ramadan and will continue till the end of Eid holidays.
Ramadan celebrated in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. This is the holiest month in Islam and is normally a time for great reflection and for self-control. The philosophy of Ramadan calls upon us to know ourselves, to master ourselves, and to discipline ourselves the better to free ourselves from everything which is negative. It is to purify our heart and soul. Ramadan is the month of blessings, forgiveness and giving. There is no better time than the holy month of Ramadan for spiritual renewal.
Twenty-four artists from diverse religion, diverse culture and diverse nationalities together came up to welcome this holy month where Ramadan, Navratri, and Lent fall all together with the divine fact that we all are a big family.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was done by His Excellency Suhail Mohd Al Zarooni, founder of Zarooni foundation and Ms. Sultana Kazim an Artist and Fashion designer. Beside them were Emirati Artist and businessperson Mr. Ahmed Al Awadhi, Mr. Rajesh Bapodara, Founder of BE ATTRACTIVE E Magazine and many more.
We can see variety of styles of artworks like Calligraphy, Abstract, Cubism, Sufism, Contemporary, and Photograph. Calligraphy was displayed in several unique styles by many artists like:
Iranian Artist Fatemeh Hosseinbor, Moroccan artist Rajia Hammour, Bangladeshi artist Mahfuzur Rehman, Armenian artist Maria Bedrossian, Pakistani artists Noor Haidri, Amna Saeed, Alia Amin, Indian artists Sabrin Asker, Saida Banu, Sabah Anees, Shabnoor Quraishi, Annu Vikas, British artist Wahida Begum.
Few artists who showcased the abstract style and cubism are: Indian Artists Anjini Prakash Laitu, Renuka Chellani, Pari Sagar, Koushal Choudhary, Edit Gorbe from Hungary, Yuliya Solomennaya, Belarus, Roudaina Fardon, an artist from USA. Ahmed Al Awadhi, UAE displayed the portrait of Father of the nation Sheikh Zayed. Doods Capiral, Philippines displayed his two artworks, and Farah Khan presented her photograph of the Holy Quran.
Shiba Khan, an artist and founder of Funun Arts Group said, “Art is a place where you can be with your own kind, a magical place were imagination flies freely and widely. Alif is the exhibition where we can experience that how artists create a magic with their beautiful artworks. We always plan an exhibition with a different theme, different concept, and every time we are amazed to see how artists are producing so beautiful ideas, putting their soul to bring their thoughts on the canvas. As planning any exhibition undergoes a thought process and Funun Arts always put maximum efforts from planning an exhibition to executing it. Ms. Sultana Kazim said, “Alif, beautiful title which starts with the very first letter of any alphabet and it is for one and only Allah. Art is the only thing where we can see so much beauty and positivity together at one place and artists are real magician who create this possible. Everything starts with ALIF. I am so honored to be here in this wonderful evening and see so much talent at one place.
Farah Khan, Co-founder, and creative designer said, “Ramadan is the month of spiritual detox. Alif is the exhibition where we brought artists highlighting purely on the theme. My Photograph, From the darkness to the light, which is the part of ALIF exhibition convey the message of positivity and enlightment. We always try to bring diverse nationalities as Funun Arts believe that Art is beyond borders and is the best way to bring everyone together. This time we have artists participating from UAE, Pakistan, India, Philippines, Hungary, Bangladesh, Armenia, Morocco, USA, Britain, Belarus, Iran.”
Mr. Anoop Dhondhoo, GM of the Novotel Hotel welcomes everyone by expressing his views about the Ramadan art exhibition ALIF, he loves the title and told us that how the artwork displayed beautifully goes with the title.

Mr. Rajesh Bapodara, Founder of Be Attractive E-Magazine said, “I came from India and luckily can experience this exhibition in person. We are covering art events by Funun Arts Group, but this is very first time I saw it in person, and I will say it was worth attending it and seeing the artwork. All the artwork is beautiful, and we can see the variety. He appreciated the team work of Funun Art along with Novotel WTC in organizing such a wonderful event.
